wipe the rotors, take out the pads, and wet them with alcohol, and rub them on sandpaper.
After cleaning disc brakes, they will be like new and need to be worked in again, so expect it.
there is a product for this called ';disc doctor';, don't waste your money - its just aerosol rubbing alcoholIs it ok to wash my mtn bike disc brakes with hand soap?
i wash my bike with dish liquid or car soap and its always fine.Is it ok to wash my mtn bike disc brakes with hand soap?
Most manufacturers recommend Dawn dishwashing soap because it cleans well, and doesn't leave a residue. Some hand soaps have moisturizers in them, and that would leave oil on your rotors, which is bad. I've seen people use rubbing alcohol, but it also leaves a slight oil residue, so I don't suggest it. Using Dawn you'll probably have to wash/rinse several times to really get 'em clean. You'll know you're there when they start to feel ';squeaky'; clean (it even kinda makes a squeaky sound, assuming you're using your fingers to rub the soap around). If you've gotten any oil on your rotors, this will remove it. However, if the oil has also contaminated your pads there is no way to remove it. You'll just have to replace the pads. Cleaning the rotors is good periodic maintenance, and is an especially good idea any time you replace pads.
