Does hand sanitizer clean as good as hand soap?

The other day I wanted to buy some hand soap for the bathroom and ended up buying hand sanitizer instead. I want to know if it's okay to wash my hands with the sanitizer and use it up or do I need to get hand soap cause the sanitizer won't clean my hands as good as hand soap? I don't want to be walking around with hands that aren't clean after using the bathroom.Does hand sanitizer clean as good as hand soap?
If this is an alcohol based sanitizer, I wouldn't replace soap with it. I've used some frequently at work recently because I was sick and wasn't always around soap. It will dry out your skin bad if you use it every time you go to the bathroom. Over a week of just using it when soap was out of reach, my hands were cracking and dry to the the point my knuckles were almost bleeding. I wouldn't substitute it.Does hand sanitizer clean as good as hand soap?
Yes. Hand sanitizer gets rid of all the bacteria on your hand. but that's not quite good necessarily because some bacteria is good for you and when you kill it with hand sanitizer, that can be bad for you. hand sanitizer is more of something you would use if you run out of soap or are on a hike or camping. i would recommend next time just getting your regular soap. sometimes advertisements are deceiving though and you would think that killing 99.9% of bacteria would be better but sometimes it isn't. oops sorry this is so long for such a simple question.
my understanding is that the hand sanitizers will sanitize what ever is on your hands

so in your case it is sanitizing the 'dirt' that is still on there

it doesn't remove things, it just sanitizes what is there

so if you only have sanitizer, then use it for sure

but soap will get rid of the dirt
Hand sanitizer doesn't clean anything. It just kills microbes. All it is is KY jelly mixed with alcolol.
Nope--hand sanitizer is just a temporary solution for when you don't have soap. It's like a glove around your hands.
Sanitizer does not clean anything, soap does.
I believe that handsoap is the best but if you are in a hurry or out on he tim for the dayhandsanitize is just good enough
sanitizer is good for when a wash room is unavailable. it will dry your skin a lot, where soap won't .

My hand soap smells after putting it in a pump, what the heck?

hey you guys usually I'm the one doing the answering lol but this time I could use some tips. My liquid hand soap tends to start smelling after putting it in my kids decorative hand pump. We have an ';ocean'; theme in our bath and the hand pump for the soap is a glass octopus, or I should say ceramic. Every time I put soap in it, it starts to stink! I've smelled the soaps in the containers before pouring it in the octopus and it smells so great then after its poured into the ceramic octopus in a few days it starts to stink like a strong chemical odor. Like something in a paint shop or body shop. What's the deal you guys?My hand soap smells after putting it in a pump, what the heck?
First, look on the bottom of your decorative hand pump, and see where it was made. Maybe it was made with a chemical that reacts with the soap. Could even be lead. Second, do you rinse it out every time, before refilling? If not, do that, rinse in hot water and pump hot water through the pump, until it pumps clean. It could be that the old soap is smelling after it sits in the pump for awhile. I know if you let it sit for long periods of time, without using it, like pushing it to the back of your cabinet and forgetting it is there, it takes on a terrible smell. Hope one of these helps you.My hand soap smells after putting it in a pump, what the heck?
Believe it or not soap has a shelf life and it sounds like the soap that was left in the container went rancid. Clean the pump, plastic tube and container with dish washing liquid and rinse with some white vinegar and then water.
Could be a chemical reaction caused by the soap and something on the ceramic.

try buying a new glass soap dispenser and see if that helps.

Does bar soap or liquid hand soap go bad? Why? Thanks?

Why? Did it taste different the last time you ate some?

How long will the soap last?

I was wondering how long my home made soap will last? I make soaps with milk and oats, and sometimes fruit and veggie juice. I was reading some soap pages on the net and it said that a lot of veggie made soaps (olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, etc) don't last as long (a few weeks or so). I wanted to make some soaps as gifts for the family and I want them to be able to last at least a year or more, how would I accomplish this???

You're talking about how long they will stay good in storage? At first I thought you meant in use... but I think you mean how long before they might go bad when stored. If you are making gifts, I would not make them way in advance because the fragrances will fade over time. It's better to time your soapmaking so that the soap is well cured but not old when you give it if possible... maybe make it two months in advance of giving it (you could do six weeks, I'm just tossing out a number there). If you want soap that will keep longer in storage, the following will help that to happen:

Don't go overboard with lye discounting/superfatting... Personally, I would not go higher than 5% lye discount. Accurate measuring is important here.

Don't fill your soap with too many unsaponifiable ingredients... like plant or vegetable fiber, fruits, etc. Those can go bad in storage and sometimes even mold if the chunks are very large. Small bits of dried herb should be okay if you don't overload the soap with it.

It would appear that you should avoid superfatting at trace. If fats added then don't get well blended before the soap is poured, they may be more inclined to go bad during storage. I prefer to put all my oils in at the beginning and only add fragrances and additives (like color, herbs) if needed at the end.

Don't store your soaps in airtight conditions. A semi-closed environment that gets a bit of air is good. That way they will be less inclined to sweat in storage but won't lose so much fragrance as they can if given total open air. I would not wrap them until it is close to the time you are going to give them as gifts. They continue to lose moisture for a long time and will keep shrinking (less and less but enough for labels to loosen, for example).

Soap that was made with no lye discount (and we are assuming is still balanced and not lye heavy) will keep for a LONG time without any rancidity. It might lose its smell over time and get hard as a rock, but will still be good soap. Whenever you add extra fat for mildness, you are lessening the longevity of your bars. If you plan to use them in short order, this is not a problem and most people use their soap within a year or two. I've heard of boxed up soap being found in old houses and still being good after who knows how long! Amazing.

Good luck! I hope this helps!

...It's possible that thing you read was in reference to how long the soap lasts when being used. Some all vegetable soaps will soften and melt down quicker in the dish than soaps made with beef tallow, for instance. Palm oil helps all-vegetable soaps to be hard and longer lasting. That in addition to coconut are good to blend with a conditioning oil such as olive.Does bar soap or liquid hand soap go bad? Why? Thanks?
You're welcome. Report Abuse
Does bar soap or liquid hand soap go bad? Why? Thanks?
i don't think that it does
if u dont put a cover on it or change it every now and than it will collect bacteria that is very bad for ur skin and others
Only after a few millenia. The glycerine and fats in modern soaps does not go rancid because of the manufacturing process involving chemical stabilizers. The polymer chains are mostly carbon based, so its halflife would be a VERY, VERY long time.

  • Why are laureth sulfates used in making shampoo, soap and hand lotions?

I am allergic to sulfa of ANY kind! As a consumer I have to stand there and read the ingredients on all of my bathing products.

I have to spend 75% more on the products that DON'T use it in the products.

So far I have only found 1 name brand that does Not use Sulfa and that is J.A.S.O.N.

How to wash your hands without soap residue going into the tank?

How are you suppose to wash your hands so whatever is on your hands doesn't go into the tank and harm your fish without the soap residue going in and harming fish?! Do they sell a soap that's safe for fish? How to wash your hands without soap residue going into the tank?
Once you've washed your hands with soap just rinse them very very well and then dry. Should be fine. I've never had a problem with my tanks and always rinse my hands very well before going on to stick my hands in a tank. How to wash your hands without soap residue going into the tank?
You can wash your hands with soap, but make sure it's not a concentrate soap or one with moisturizers in it. A plain antibacterial soap is just fine.

Make sure to rinse extremely well, even under the fingernails before putting your hands in tank.

I personally use Dial soaps and have never had a problem, however I've noticed with Ivory dish washing soap, it's so concentrated that even if it feels like you've rinsed your hand thoroughly, there is still residue.

I have no idea if there is a soap safe for fish, but once you are careful in rinsing your hands thoroughly and use plain soap, your fine.
As others have said, as long as you rinse very well, you should be fine. Alternately, I have seen rubber gloves made for working in the tank. They go all the way to the shoulder! This is an option if you are very worried about it.
dont use soap just wash them well under warm water

Which is better hand sanitizer or soap and water?

sanitizer i good once in a while

you don't want to use it all the time b/c, notice how it only kills 99.9(9)% of germs, well the other .01% are strong, harsh germs that the sanitizer isent strong enough to kill, and they still continue to multiply, so as result, you have the srtong, harsh germs multiplying, instead of the other weaker germs.Which is better hand sanitizer or soap and water?
in my opinion santinizerWhich is better hand sanitizer or soap and water?
Sanitizer is good if you're just killing germs, but it doesn't do a thing as far as removing dirt. I tend to agree with what a lot of doctors say; it's best to wash your hands with warm water and soap, scrubbing your hands for at least 30 seconds before rinsing.

  • Bar or liquid, hand soap?

i usually wash my hands with whatever girly liquid hand soap is here, right now i'm going around smelling like sweet peas! when i want to be more manly i use the dish soap in the kitchen.Bar or liquid, hand soap?
I prefer hand soap, but we always tend to buy the irish spring bars, god I know i am irish, but hell i dont want to smell like a man...lolBar or liquid, hand soap?
    liquid
liquid soap all the way for everything...they have the exfoliating beadsin them i love those things...make you feel cleaner
    Liquid for sure.
Liquid, it's cleaner and more hygenic!
for hand soap is definitely has to be liquid...who knows what kind of yucky things could be on the bar!!!!
Liquid. But seriously thinking about switching soon to bar. Getting your hands wrapped around the bar %26amp; knowing all of your hand %26amp; wrist is getting clean.
liquid, because bar soap has too many germs
do not use soaps..they contain chemicals harmful to the environment..
    liquid.
    Always liquid.

I don't have any bar soap in my house anymore.
I always use liquid soap as the bar soap drys your skin out bad.
    bar....except liquid always smells better
    liquid
I prefer liquid hand soap because only you get that drop of liquid soap when you squeeze it from the container and the bar soap helps to spread bacteria because when someone rub the soap the dirt/ bacteria from their hands goes on to the soap and then you rub your hand on the soap the bacteria is transferred to your hand. So liquid soap is better to use even if you are the only one using it.
    liquid
    Liquid
My husband likes liquid hand soap but I prefer bar because it doesn't leave the slimy residue.
I prefer liquid. I don't like chasing that bar of soap all over the sink top to pick it up. Then when it's all wet, the dang thing won't stay in that little soap dish area.
bath %26amp; body works foam soap. =)
Bar is more comfy and easy to use..^_^
I like liquid handsoap better because I feel like I can spread it around on my hands better and get them cleaner.
Bar. A generic ';Ivory-type'; soap. I use that for everything in the shower.
Bar. I never use any soap except Dove.( The pink)
    bar but don't get drunk
Bars. They're A LOT cheaper and last a lot longer, too. Better yet, buy bars of soap made only from organic materials, and you save the environment, too!
i prefer a bar hand soap it doesnt take so time to wash my hands with it!
I only use the dial foaming hand soap, it is easy for my 6yr old to use
liquid becouse the bar slides every where(in the shower the sink)and if it slides in the floor it would get germs on it so you would be washing with germs
I'd prefer liquid. As it was posted somewhere else in some book, more people touch the bar soap and that gets YOU in contact with other germs. The liquid i say is more cleaner. not touched by anyone else(the liquid), except the only part touched by others is the squirt action thingy. which by then you'd be washing you hands.

Over the years I got to be quite a connoisseur of soap. Though my personal preference was for Lux, I found that Palmolive had a nice, piquant after-dinner flavor - heavy, but with a touch of mellow smoothness. Life Buoy, on the other hand... YECCHH

Have you ever washed your hair with dish or hand soap?

A few times. Not a very good idea though. Takes out all the natural oils and leaves it really dry and static, well we won't go there.Have you ever washed your hair with dish or hand soap?
no but had a friend years ago use fabric softener for a hair softenerHave you ever washed your hair with dish or hand soap?
yes, and it's awful to use on your hair; don't do it!! much to drying on the hair and scalp!!
Yeah, when I run out of shampoo I use bar soap.
A few times I`ve used Palmolive dish soap when I`ve run out f shampoo. It does a really good job because it cleans the soap residue left on your hair from regular shampoos. I wouldn`t make a habit of it because it can dry out your hair but occasionally it`s even a good idea.

No. But i have washed my body with Shampoo when i was little, a lot.. I don't know.. It sounds weird..
No, that will strip color outta your hair! (If you have color on it--don't know what it would do without the color).
done it will camping. that is why people that made there own soap[lye] looked like they were ran over by a mack truck all the time. I am talking about years ago before any of us were ever born. no tooth brushes. no tampons. no birth control. take a bath once a month or not at all. or how would like to take a bath in water that had been used 20 times before u?
Yes, when travelling and in total desperation. Turns your hair into straw - don't try it unless you have to! Oh, and I had to use hand soap once in Hong Kong, where the water is so hard you can't get normal shampoo to lather properly.

    Antibacterial Hand soap???

I was at the store buying soap, and I found it was cheaper to by a bulk jug of Dial anibacterial handsoap that to buy antibacterial body wash. My friends came over to my house and saw the jug of Dial in the shower, because I was using it for body wash instead. They scolded me becuase they heard it was harmful to use antibacterial handsoap as body wash. I have checked the ingredients, and there really is no difference. There are no warnings against using the handsoap for your whole body, so why not???Antibacterial Hand soap???
you're right. you can use hand soap for you body. if you're body does get dry, then just use lotion. there's not really any difference but body wash might have a different scent or ingredient to make your skin softer.Antibacterial Hand soap???
Dial is good. I wouldn't worry.
I think your friends were refering to the fact that you are using antibacterial soap. It has been proven that not all bacteria is bad, and killing off the stuff that we need on our bodies to ward off infections and germs causes us to get sicker that we would have if we had just used soap.
technically it isn't harmful, but i could see it drying out your skin if it doesn't contain any moisturizers in it.

I use hand soap more, plus it smells better. Santizer smell makes my head hurt, and most of them stink
i heard hand sanitizer doesn't just kill the bad germs, but the ';good'; germs as well.

so apparently it is really bad for you in the long run.

plus, it has been proven if you use it three or more times a day, for six or seven years, it can effect your health ? i think.

so soap and water for me . haha.

    Hand soap or liquid soap???????

which is better? why?Hand soap or liquid soap???????
liquid is more hygienic because it comes in a bottle or you can buy a refillable bottle unlike a bar of soap which gets touched by everyone and accumulates dirt and germsHand soap or liquid soap???????
    liquid, easier to use ^^

Liquid soap. Hand soap needs to be washed after use otherwise it goes foamy. You try washing with foamy soap.
    I perfer Foam Soup!!!
liquid. so much better cause it foams up more and people cant get their dirty hands all over it like bar soap...yuck!
Liquid for sure. Because germs LOVE the hand soap.
Liquid soap!!! It is less messy and germ free!!!!
Liquid. Easier to use and germs, bacteria, dirt, etc don't linger on it like they do with bars.

Do you think I could use hand soap......?

...to wash things that go in sensitive places?

~wink~Do you think I could use hand soap......?
Just make sure to rinse them REALLY well so the soap doesn't irritate you. They also make specials washes and cleaning sprays for such things :)Do you think I could use hand soap......?
Ummm, no...I think that you probably need something more suited for those ';things';, hand soap can contain dyes and fragrances that can irritate those ';sensitive places';.
I would be careful using hand soaps that have perfume in them. They could cause irritation or infections in you sensitive places.
Yes, that is fine. Wash them soon after use so no bacteria has any chances to grow on the surfaces, and scrub each one for 20 seconds before rinsing.
That depends on exactly what you are washing, and how sensitive the place is.
    Maybe ...?

  • Does anti-bacterial hand soap expire?

So I have this big refill bottle of generic hand-soap and it's like three years old. Can I still use it?Does anti-bacterial hand soap expire?
Allegra, your soap might have lost some of it's anti-bacterial properties a few years ago, but it's still soap, and soap is good. A few of those little bacterias that you graciously permitted to live will produce some antigens for whom your immune system will enthusiastically produce antibodies. Those antibodies might some day save your life when your go uptown and eat at that little Chinese restaurant with the flashing neon sign. Keep the soap!Does anti-bacterial hand soap expire?
I'm not sure...I think you could still use it but I'd say don't because it might cause you some problem with your skin. I really don't know if soap ever expires, so I'm just guessing but...it's an interesting question. I wonder if it ever expires??
I work at a restaurant and often I scratch my anus, and my genitals, but I always use soap afterwards. No one has gotten sick yet so I guess it works.
I would totally use it. If i was some fancy Hollywood type with hand-soap i would use it, and you got a jug of the stuff, and its only 3 years old!

Plus all hand soap on Earth was made 50 years ago, they just change the label.

3 year old hand-soap is a vintage year i believe.
if it were me I would throw it out and get myself a new smaller bottle

    Hand sanitizer vs. hand soap?

which is most eco-friendly, cost efficient, healthy and why?Hand sanitizer vs. hand soap?
    sanitizer dont removw dirt

but bacteria are everywhere, impossible to get rid ofHand sanitizer vs. hand soap?
There are few handsanitizers that are eco-friendly. Most are just rubbing alcohol, or if they are anitbacterial they will likely contain either a pesticide, herbicide or fungicide, not a good thing to absorb into your body. The over use of these things are also causing bacteria to become resistant and harder to fight off.

So, it is better to use a natural soap and lather for 30-60 seconds before rinsing if you want clean hands.
I have heard that hand sanitizer works better than hand soap, I think it was because a certain percentage of people do not wash their hands properly. Sanitizer, in my opinion, is probably more eco-friendly, cost efficient and healthy. I say eco-friendly only because you do not need to wipe or wash it off (no paper towels, no water). Cost efficient because it is pretty darn cheap and healthy because of my original answer, most people do not wash their hands properly. Hope this helps!

I have read that hand sanitizer gets rid of many bacteria that we ';need'; and that soap and water is better for general usage. Also, hand sanitizer, when used frequently, can dry out your hands so be sure to use lotion afterward.

However, sanitizer may be more eco-friendly due to not needing water and papertowels. I bring a hankie with me to dry my hands with instead of using paper towels.

bar soap or hand soap ?

what is better for health wise, bar soap or hand soap?and why bar soap or hand soap ?
Hand soap is healthier. If you have lots of different people using bar soap, there's a good chance they might leave something on it. (soap doesn't clean itself) However, with hand soap, it's difficult to contaminate the entire bottle and the pump is small so whatever is left behind poses a smaller risk. Also, it's typically easier to wash thoroughly using liquid soap. Either way, these differences are so small, that it doesn't really matter which one you use, the result will be almost entirely the same. bar soap or hand soap ?
I like the liquid type soaps because you just use what you need, and they are in a hygienic container but with the bar soaps you could be leaving behind a bunch of germs that get used over and over again.
idk either way u have 2 touch something some1 already touched. eg hand soap the pump and bar soap the soap.

DO you like hand made soap?

I am making hand made soap now and I really like it. As I have used it more I become more and more critical of store bought detergents. What is your opinion?DO you like hand made soap?
OMG There's a store here in Tokyo, it's like, tiny, at the airport it's like, all handmade, super cute soaps. They smell like, delicious, and I've got like 1000 of them!! I love them =DDO you like hand made soap?
I tend to agree. With Hand Made soap you have the freedom from harsh detergents and chemicals and can enjoy any number of natural alternatives!

Lavender, eucalyptus, rosewood, roses, lemon balm, you name it! And you can use essential oils as a base for the scent and/or skin conditioning ingredients!!

    Hope this helps!
Once you use a good handmade soap, there's no going back. I've been making my own since 1998 and I love it.

When you make your own, you have the freedom to decide what you're going to put on your skin and since it's your biggest organ, that's pretty important!

I'll bet you've found that your soap lathers better and your skin doesn't feel like it's dry and tight anymore.

Even higher end soaps like the body shops (though nice) just can't quite compare.

I get some personal satisfaction from making my soaps as well. It's tons of fun and you get to be creative which is something I enjoy alot.

    Happy Soaping!

    Cathy
I love my handmade soaps, as does my husband. He travels a lot and stays in motels. He has started taking my handmade soaps as the soaps in the hotels cause him to have dry irritated skin. So my vote is for the handmade soaps, whether i make them or someone else does.
I defiantly agree you can also go onto www.lush.com and this is a store full of hand made beauty product with all natural ingredients..

  • Hand soap or hand sanitizer?

Which do you prefer?Hand soap or hand sanitizer?
Dog shampoo !Hand soap or hand sanitizer?
Handsoap whenever possible. It is best to wash and rinse away germs. Hand sanitizers leave the dead germs on your hands, don't they. That is if the claims to kill 99.9% of them are true to begin with, some products just say that. Hot, soapy water and a vigorous scrub is best. Turn the faucet off with your elbow and don't forget to open the door with a paper towel. A lot of people don't wash their hands. You touch the handle they used and you might as well not have washed yours either. I use a sleeve, shirt tail or even my hand in a pocket to open doors in public restrooms where they have blowers and no paper towels. Doors to public restrooms should be push in, push out, don't you think?
Sanitizer at work and soap and water at home followed by lotion. Too much of either leave my hands feeling dry.
    I prefer hand soap because it doesn't dry out my hands. But hand sanitizer kills ';the germs.';

i JUST bought a new very expensive sweater. wen i went to wash my hands it squirted all over it. it says to hand wash cold. so i rinsed the spots with water, however, there is now a stain. the sweater is green, it smells heavely of soap and there is a blue ring around it. how do i get it out?Hand soap on sweater?
Fill a small load in washer with cold water, leave lid open. Let the sweater sit in the water overnight. On HAND WASH cycle, let the washer spin and drain. Repeat, trying to avoid the agitate cycle, unless you trust your washer. (I don't trust mine).

Lay out to dry as usual. If this doesn't work, try the dry cleaners.Hand soap on sweater?
Don't put it in the machine to spin!

Trust me, it will stretch it even on the delicate cycle.

Get some Oxy Clean, mix in a cup or bowl with hot water.

Take the area of the soap on the sweater and place in small tub or a rubbermaid type container.

Fill the container with cool water and then add Oxy Clean. Let it sit for several hours and then rinse area with cool clean water.

Place sweater on a couple of towels and lay flat. Use another towel on the top of the sweater and push down to get excess water up.

Remove top towel and let air dry.

yes i use it every time i wash my hands at home and some places that have it when i am away from home.
Yes i use it all the time
No. Using antibacterial agents indiscriminantely means that you get bacteria who are, through the process of natural selection, immune to antibacterial agents. I just use regular soap. It's cheaper, and I'm not helping create a new generation of superbugs.
    No,regular soap and water
Have some in my purse and in the car.

Is Hand Soap Toxic To Hamsters?

SyriansIs Hand Soap Toxic To Hamsters?
It is hand soap that you cleaned his cage with? Hmmm... if it was a floor cleaner or anyting toxic to humans than I would say yes, but since that is not the case, I would say no. Hamsters die for many reasons and he could have been old or anything might have happened. So sorry to hear about your hammy. Also, you know that it is not the soap as it was two days later. Is Hand Soap Toxic To Hamsters?
hamsters LOVE to chew on things, including their cages. if there was enough residue on the bars for him to ingest, it definitely could have k.o'd the little guy. Sorry. :(
Sad. I don't know but I am SO sorry. I hope you are OK. :(
It was probably not the handsoap, especially if you rinsed it really well. However, I don't use soap on my gerbil's cage--I use Lemon Quat and warm water. It's totally non-toxic to small animals. You can buy it at any pet store, it's fairly inexpensive, and one bottle will last you a long time. Depending on where you go, it may just be called ';small pet cage disinfectant.'; It comes in a spray bottle and it works really well (just don't spray it on your pet--I know this is probably a given, but you know...). Give it a try; you'll probably end up liking it better than soap anyway.

P.S. Always read labels carefully before trying a new pet product!
Handsoap is perfectly fine as long as you rinse it out well and completely dry it before you put the hamster back in...
If you rinsed the cage out propley I dont think it would of been.

But if you are planning on getting another hamster in the future you can buy disinfectant sprays from all pet stores especially designed to clean out all rodant cages. It will kill all harmful bacteria in the cage and is very safe to use.
dont ever clean your hampsters cage with any kind if soap!!! it will kill them!!! you will just have to scrub.

    Green antibacterial hand soap?

    Hello,

Have you heard of that new cleaning brand ';Green Works'; by Clorox? Well.. I was wondering if that company had a hand soap or something?

    Sam

    Green antibacterial hand soap?
Any soap, when used correctly, will remove germs from your hands without having to have a special antibacterial agent.

Soap up your hands by rubbing them vigorously for at least 30 seconds, paying special attention to the area around your nails. Rinse and dry on a clean towel. There you go, your hands are now clean.

    Green antibacterial hand soap?
There is no need for antibacterial soap, a real soap kills germs. The important thing is to wash your hands for several seconds not just apply and rinse. I use natural ca stile soap, vinegar and baking soda to clean almost everything. The only other things I use are laundry soap and dishwasher soap. My family rarely gets sick, so they seem to be doing what they are designed to do. There is a lot of evidence that all the antibacterial and sanitizing cleaners are just making viruses and bacteria stronger, it's a lot like the over use of penicillin, it used to be the wonder drug, now it is virtually ineffective.

I find most of my cleaners at health food stores, but Method and Seventh Generation are both good companies and are found in many grocery or chain stores. You may have noticed I didn't list Green Works. I won't buy cleaning supplies from a company that doesn't list every ingredient, the others I mentioned either have them on the label or list them on the website.

Since most doctors say antibacterial hand soap really doesn't stop any illnesses better than regular soap and it only promotes drug-resistant bacteria, and most environmentalists say antibacterial hand soap should be kept out of the water system altogether, I find it hard to believe there's a green version of antibacterial soap.
Not that I am aware of, however, I would recommend ordering some things from Shaklee; if you are interested, I will give you someones' URL. Their stuff is GREAT!

If you do not care to order online, then Method @ Target makes liquid hand soap.

Should i wash my bays cloth with baby soap by hand or use baby detergent in washing machine ? which is good?

i heard that i should not use baby detergent washing my baby cloth , instead of that i should use baby soap for wash by hand to avoid other skin desease upto six month . is that true ?Should i wash my bays cloth with baby soap by hand or use baby detergent in washing machine ? which is good?
I so would not do that unless I had a reason to, like the dr. saying it was best for the baby! You could always run the washer a 2nd time without soap or just use the detergent made for baby's clothing like DreftShould i wash my bays cloth with baby soap by hand or use baby detergent in washing machine ? which is good?
i washed all of my sons clothes in any regular type of detergent ( usually purex or arm%26amp;hammer) and he is just find. No skin problems at all. And i used a washing machine to do it.
With my first child we used baby detergent in our washing machine. He has eczema, which has gotten better. We wash all of our clothes with regular detergent, including our second child's clothes, and she has never had any problems. I see no need to spend the money on expensive detergent. Unless the item has a tag saying dry clean or hand-wash only, we don't get fussy.
I used All Free and Clear and Dreft in the washing machine. I did not use any fabric softener, or anything else. The All Free and Clear and the Dreft are made for babies sensitive skin. The Free and Clear does not have any added scents, or colors that may aggitate sensitive skin.
I think it is fine to wash them in the baby detergent in the washer. Unless the baby gets a rash from it. If you have a new baby you are going to have enough to do besides washing out clothes by hand.
I always have washed all my (3) kids in regular detergent and fabric softener without any prob. but if they develop a rash from regular you can use All Free and Clear I have heard its the same as the expensive baby detergents
I have actually used baby detergent in the wash and i've also used regular detergents. It didn't make a difference at all.
I would definitely use a washing machine. It will rince the soap out better than washing by hand.
Dreft, is great for the baby clothes. In the washer.
i have 3 kids and never did i do there clothing by hand i would only do that if i had to, a baby is alot to do why add more?
take a Sm load of baby clothes and wash them in the detergent that you use for your self. Keep them aside so you know which ones they are and then have baby wear them if your baby skin okay then you know that you can use one laundry detergent for all of you. If you really need to keep it all separate try a single washing machine. They are Sm and fit under a sink you can find them in camping supply stores they do one load at a time and them hang dry your clothes. That way you know they get real clean and it is faster then hand washing.
I have never heard of this before. I used baby detergent for the first month and than started using regular detergent and once I saw that there were no irritations on the skin I kept using the regular detergent.

Does your family have a history of skin issues?

    I found this online ';It is best to use laundry detergent and not laundry soap because soap removes the special fire retardant chemicals on your baby's clothes';

it can also clog up your pores. (N)

its best to use a cleanser and moisturise every moring and evening.

by the way this is the first qquestion i have answered =]

Is it okay to use liquid hand soap....... ?

as a lubricant in the shower for a quickie ??Is it okay to use liquid hand soap....... ?
    No!

it can cause painful irritation, burning, and redness.

i would NEVER use that. It's especially painful for the woman

-OUCHH!Is it okay to use liquid hand soap....... ?
Dont try it! One time i was in the shower and decided to use soap as lube and then it started burning like crazy down there for the rest of the day! And it can cause a yeast infection maybe you could try baby oil or something

    Hope i helped=)
    Don't do that.

First of all it wouldn't work very well as a lubricant.

Secondly, you'll probably get a yeast infection. Most hand soap is antibacterial and it will kill the good bacteria you have.
i would say no because the vagina is very sensative and using liquid hand soap as lube doesnt sound like a good idea...i wouldent do that use baby oil or something instead
Sure, if you don't mind yeast infections. Soap can throw of the acidic balance ';down there'; and cause a yeast infection.

  • Heavy duty hand soap?

Can anyone reccommend a heavy duty hand soap that can get rid of tough grease and dirt? Something that mechanics use? and where can I buy it?Heavy duty hand soap?
Trick is to put regular shaving foam on your hands before you get to work--rub your hands together like your washing and get it under your nails. Then wipe your hands somewhat dry and dive in to the wrenching....when you're done wash your hands as normal with Lava soap and the shaving cream will prevent a lot of the grease and dirt from sticking to your hands to begin with. Also, I use Dawn dish soap--cuts the grease and Lava--- Gojo with pumice is what we use to use in the shop. Get some latex gloves or mechanix gloves for lots of daily use and your hands won't crack and dry up so much. Udder balm is good for that.Heavy duty hand soap?
GO-JO...Good stuff. Wal-Mart, Auto Zone, or any auto stores.
if you are looking for hand cleaner, i'd get the one that has the pumice (sand like stuff), as it seems to help some. fast orange (as mentioned), i think gojo has it.

    lava soap works good also..
try using a product called ';FastOrange'; we used that in a garage I used to work at and it did a great job. you can buy it at most automotive suppliers
Swarfega -l think that's how you spell it ?-- ironmongers or hardware shop should sell it.

Does anyone know the process to extract Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) from hand soaps or shampoos?

I need to extract MIT from hand soaps or shampoos but i have no idea how to do so. can anyone help?Does anyone know the process to extract Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) from hand soaps or shampoos?
It would be next to impossible to extract MIT out of soap. If you are allergic to this preservative which is used in many soap, foods and cosmetic products, then try using naturally made soaps with organic ingredients like these:

    Hand soap as facwash?

I washed my face with a bar of soap and it got really dry. Are we not supposed to use it was facewash?Hand soap as facwash?
    oh god no!

Why do you think that the skin care market is a million dollar industry!

Skin care products are very inexpensive. go pay $4 for something that belongs on your face sweetheart.Hand soap as facwash?
Most bar soap is too harsh for the face and will dry it out. If you strip your face of too much of its natural oils, it can end up overproducing oil to compensate and then you get breakouts. This happened when I used a facewash which dried my skin out too much. Try find a facewash which is less harsh on your face.
Youre not not supposed to, but its not recommended, because its drying, which you've figured out already. Most face washes are made specifically to not over dry your skin, but bar soaps main goal is simply to clean/disinfect
NO NO NO!!!!! Hand soap totally dries up your skin! Use products specifically meant for your face! If your in a hurry, get cleansing pads like clearasil or stridex.
No No No! Never. Use a specific face wash like Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser.
    ahhh no.

it makes your face dry out. and then it would start peeling and it gets gross haha
    notttt meant for face.

unless your skin doesnt dry out.

    but still.

get face soap its a lot gentler

The best brand of hand soap is Tone especially if you are like me and wash your hands a lot. Tone as a lather and it also smells good and it doesn't make your hands dry.
hum- well they all sell pretty good- I'd say dial or dove sells the best out of most in the average store (i work in health and beauty) but be sure to choose which one is best for you- and one your not allergic to! Course alot of people have been buying a brand name called method- its quite popular!

Why does liquid hand soap have an expiration date?!!!?

will it be harmfull if used after it expires? Why does liquid hand soap have an expiration date?!!!?
liguid hand soap has additives that kill bacteria.these additives, like med's.,are only effective for a certain amount of time.it's not harmful after expiration,it just won't combat bacteria as well. Why does liquid hand soap have an expiration date?!!!?
good question lol and a reli good answer!!

    xxxxx

    tokio-hotel-lover Report Abuse

As a matter of fact, expired soap can do you a lot of harm. You could get rashes and serious skin diseases. It's just like with expired face cream.

Soap has an expiration date on it because its compounds become altered in time (the oils and such) and in some cases become harmful for the skin.
This is what happens when wackos get ahold of our congress and pass stupid laws.
no, pretty much everything has an expiration date, but hand soap will definitely not harm you if used after expiration date, it's just something that manufacturers have to do...no worries
i think on all products they have to put an exp date, but nothing would happen if u use it after, its just a rule i guess but stuff like food and medication u should take note off!!! dont play with that

    hell, even water has it
Most of them have it because they say that they are antibacterial soaps. However, the only way to truely kill the bacteria on your hands and such is with the friction you promote when rubbing them together. the soap is a help in removing dirt.
i'm not sure but it could be that soap is a mixture and not compound, meaning that over time the different molecules will seperate from each other. i highly doubt soap would become dangerous; it just may not do its job as well
it's just because the law says that almost everything got an expiration date.

honey, which is always good, got also an experiation date...

???How do you get paint primer off your hands? Soap is making no progress.?
Use gasoline or paint thinner. Then wash with soap and water and apply lotion. How do you get paint primer off your hands? Soap is making no progress.?
Primer is like paint, so whatever you would remove paint with, or read the can.
If its an Oil Base, wash them with a Little Gasoline and then wash real well with hot soap and water. If its a Latex Primer, just use some Skin So Soft and then wipe it right off..
paint thinner. lighter fliud, a little bit of gas
    WD 40.
Paint Thinner or gas just out it on your hands and rub them together
    Gojo; Goop; sand paper; steel wool; wd40; paint thinner;
    Paint Thinner
i would help paint houses and always had paint or primer on my hands the best thing i found to use was fingernail polish remover with acetone any brand will do
Sweat and body oil is probably the best skin clean of all I always put a washing up glove or latex glove on and put my hand in warm to hot water to get the sweat and oils flowing and leave it for 5 to 10 mins and then take the glove off and then it just peel off you skin like it was never there.
Rubbing alcohol should do it, but it will take some time.

In between washing with rubbing alcohol, wash with soap and water as well

What are the scope and limitations of liquid hand soap ?

home made liquid hand soapWhat are the scope and limitations of liquid hand soap ?
Hand soap is made up of a long chain fatty acid and a cation. It is a substance which as a polar end (the cation) and a non polar ';tail'; (the fatty acid). This enables soap to work on polar (charged) dirt as well as non polar greases. The soap bubbles capture the dirt and rinse water washes it away.

Soap cannot do very much with protein based dirt, such as dried blood or similar stains. That needs an enzyme based detergent to clean the item.

Why do foaming hand soaps always squirt out foam?

I filled a hand soap thing with water by foam came out how?Why do foaming hand soaps always squirt out foam?
The dispenser is specially made to turn the soap into a foam as it makes the soap go much further and so a higher concentration of the liquid can be used and not wasted. This makes the size of the soap dispenser smaller and so it looks better on the wall, yet can do the job of a much larger unitWhy do foaming hand soaps always squirt out foam?
Ive always woundered the same thing!

I think its in the pump handle...

    yea for sure:)
they make the pump special to turrn liquids into foam. if you open the foam container, you will see the soap is liqiud. if they leave it as foam it will or either run out too quickly or collapse and be worthless

Just want to welcome you to Y/A and the Alternative Section. I see this is your very first day. Hope you visit here often.

I got my son a shaving cream warmer in the after Christmas sales.. I don't know if it's broken..or what..but the foam keeps squirting out ..even when it's not being used. (I just thought of this because you mentioned foam.) I'm not a scientist..I just ';wonder'; about things a lot like you!! lol I guess it's from the air that's inside the container.
What did you expect them to squirt out? Fire?

The reason your water turned to foam is there was probably still soap in there.
it forces it through tiny holes on its way out.
This is part of the 'pre-foaming' in built action they have. This saves you having to mix the soap with water and make the foam yourself. The foam is supposed to create the feeling of luxuriousness.

So go ahead - feel luxurious for a while with your trusty soap dispenser.

i use it all the time. it is a bit harsher than regular soap though. DONT USE IT ON YOUR FACE.
I use it all the time but yes it dries my hands out as well, that is why I always have lotion because I wash my hands a lot.
yes it can but use hand cream to moisturize.
I use it all the time. It's right there by the sink which is where I usually wash my hands. If they dry out, I use a hand cream at the end of the day.

  • Poll: Why does hand soap always say that they kill 99.9% of bacteria but never 100%?

I've always wondered about that. :/Poll: Why does hand soap always say that they kill 99.9% of bacteria but never 100%?
aha but i have a solution put some extra soap to add more chance of removing that 1%Poll: Why does hand soap always say that they kill 99.9% of bacteria but never 100%?
If they said 100% and someone still got sick, they would get sued. Stheyey say 99.9 percentso there's's that 0.01 percent of getting sick. Report Abuse

Because declaring that the soap kills 100% of all bacteria would be a false statement which could lead to lawsuits. Some bacteria cannot be killed by the mild chemicals that are in hand soap. Hence why bacteria can outlive a nuclear blast.
cus if you used it and then stuck your hand under a microscope, you would find bacteria and so they say 99% as a disclaimer so its not false advertising....

    I agree, its dumb
    because nothing is perfect.

    it'll never be 100%.

please, not all anti-bacterial soaps are entirely anti-bacterial.

how about putting dusts inside the bottle of hand soap?
because they cant guarantee 100% of the bacteria will be killed
very few things can kill 100% of all bacteria. Thats why people are dying with MRSA.
    downplaying expectation
thats just the way it works

if you want that 1% killed add bleach to your soap
Because it doesn't kill all of it.
because they can't be sure it'll kill every single germ.
idk, because that one percent will not be killed....who knows?

What would you do if you had an infinite supply of apples and hand soap?

I would throw apples at innocent bystanders off a building and eat the soapWhat would you do if you had an infinite supply of apples and hand soap?
Eat the apples, and wash my hands a lot! lolWhat would you do if you had an infinite supply of apples and hand soap?
    Melt down the soap.

Dry and grind the apples into a powder.

Add the powder to the soap mix.

Pour the soap into trendy molds.

Write and release a ';scientific'; study claiming apple soap cures cancer and allows you to live till you're 185 years old with perfect skin.

    Get Oprah to buy in.

    Get rich.

Buy lot's of apple soap so as to live till I'm 185 and enjoy my earnings.
i just hate apples... i'd give them all away
Wash all my apples then throw them away.
Do the happy dance. That stuff is expensive, when you eat an apple a day.
I would share them with the people less fortunate. Like give the apples to them so they wouldn't starve and give them soap to wash their hands with.
Feed people with the apples and give people hand soap to stay clean! :-)
eat a lot of apple and take a shower and wash my hands?
well the apples would move my bowels making me have to go poop more often so i would eat the apples and then use the soap to wash my hands, wow-zers W M, that would take forever to eat all them apples.
I would bake an apple pie and wash my hands OCD style.....I'd need some lotion though, my hands get pretty dry.....
i would ask where to get them
be very careful. i might accidently eat hand soap! lolz
keep clean and make lots of pies
    sell it and earn money
Make me some pies. Wash your hands afterwards.
i would chuck them at people
i guess i would have clean apples and all my teeth and be germ free
Eat, and take a bath at the same time !
eat apples and wash my hands
    huh?
Eat the apples and wash my hands frequently I guess.
Share both with Friends,Family and the needy people.
I'd lube up the apples with the hand soap and fill up a room with them and jump in. It would be like rolling around in giant ball bearings! I don't know why that sounds fun but it does.
Blow up a few of each with some firecrackers, make some pies, fill a pool with handsoap, put on some really good sealing goggles, and have some fun swimming in soap. Good exercise. HAHAHA Throw some apples into traffic from a bridge. Put some apple on railroad tracks,. and watch then get squishes. Same thing but on a highway. I's spell my name, and watch traffic tare um' up! HAHAHA fun times!
    Use them.
Bake lots of pies and wash my hands.
make apple pies, serve without forks, hand soap would come in handy,or candied apples. is this a dirty question?
Wash my hands then make apple pies for money.
I would sell them on eBay or eat the apples and use lots of hand soap.
    open a market stall....

How do i remove the smell of gahlic from my hands soap doesnt work?

and its driving me nutsHow do i remove the smell of gahlic from my hands soap doesnt work?
lemon juice, rub it well in, then rinse in cold water, not warm. How do i remove the smell of gahlic from my hands soap doesnt work?
I was going to say stainless steel but others have beat me to it is the only thing that has ever worked for me the others have just added a smell onto a smell. I have used taps when they are stainless steel or any utensil to hand, you can buy stainless steel soaps but unless everything in your house is plastic I wouldn't bother.
Rub fresh lemon all over your hands like you are washing them and rinse well.
Slightly damped hands with water. Pour salt into your hands and rub together. Kosher salt is best. Works perfect for garlic and onions.
Hold something stainless steel (I usually use a spoon) and run warm water, now wash the spoon. Make sure its stainless steel. It removes the smell every time. Try it! I swear!
some fresh lemon juice and a little warm water should do it :)

    --------OR--------

    some milk.

either of those, just rub them onto your hands. never use cologne/perfume. it'll only make things worse.
there's a special kind of metal stone that works, but i don't know where to get it from.maybe kitchen /cookware shops.but i definitely know that if you chew parsley after eating garlic ,you will get rid of the taste.
    lemon juice
stainless steel. I know it sounds retarded but it works. rub a ';real'; stainless still spoon between your hands. if you don't have stainless steel, you can also try baking soda or salt. this is one of those old ';granny'; remedies.
rub with parsley or lemon juice
To remove the garlic smell from your hands, simply rub your hands with a stainless steel spoon or other stainless steel utensil.

Don't have stainless steel utensils on hand? A little salt or baking soda rubbed on the hands should do the trick, also
Rub your wet fingers over the not sharp side of a stainless steel knife or utensil until the odor is gone. It must be stainless steel. I don't know why but it works. Just don't cut yourself.
rub your hands on a metal/aluminum surface like your sink it really works! i heard it from a chef
Rub them on any metal surface, just wipe them on the taps, try it,
Try rubbing your hands with a little cooking oil before handling the garlic.
i spray perfume on my hands if i get garlic or onion on my hands but most of the time i rub a bit of veg/olive oil on before chopping

What brand of hand soap do you suggest for others?

    White Dove...

Its good. What brand of hand soap do you suggest for others?
If you live in the US (or in Canada this fall), check out Bath and Body Works. They have the most amazing soaps that I have ever tried... they clean extremely well, have anti-bacterial properties, moisturize without making your hands greasy, and smell absolutely divine. Also, a little bit goes a long way, so a bottle lasts for quite a while.

I received a bottle from a friend a month ago and I am hooked. I live in Canada, so we don't have it available yet (This fall they are supposed to be opening some stores in Canada). I'm almost contemplating a trip to the US just to get more... that's how good it is.

If you can get your hands on some (ha ha), definitely check it out! What brand of hand soap do you suggest for others?
I keep it simple, dial liquid soap! :-)

  • Why is hand-made soap better for you then soap you buy?

who says it is better for you? there are plenty of kinds of soaps available that are made with the purest ingredients. you just have to find the right store. many chemicals are used in bath products, some for the smell and others for disinfecting and cleaning purposes. stay away from soaps with indredients that have really long names. if you make soap at home than it will be much cheaper than a special kind you find at the store. Why is hand-made soap better for you then soap you buy?
dont have all the chemical junk in itWhy is hand-made soap better for you then soap you buy?
hand made soaps have less fake stuff(chemicals) than store stuff.
It has natural ingredients, if it's the real thing, not harsh chemicals.
soap you buy at the store has chemicals in them that can over time harm your skin, thats why if you do buy soap you should switch brands often
What evidence do you have to back up your statement?
    Who said that?

Hand-made soap is basically pot ash (Lye!) and pig fat!

Now if you can rub lye and pig fat on your bod, and call that good, well more power to you.

It does have advantages. It's a great mosquito, flea, tick, and insect repellent. Along with getting you clean!

Basically after that you start adding chemicals to make it foam, lather, smell, etc. and you have modern day store bought soap. If you can't find ';lye soap,'; then try Octagon soap. It's about the same.

Another factor you might remember, a lot of other home-made soaps are just mixtures of chemicals done at home. Really!

Are hand sanitizers really as good as washing with soap and water?

No! ';Antibacterial hand sanitizers are marketed to the public as an effective way to ';wash one's hands'; when traditional soap and water are not available. These ';waterless'; products are particularly popular with parents of small children. Manufacturers of hand sanitizers claim that the sanitizers kill 99.9 percent of germs. Since you naturally use hand sanitizers to cleanse your hands, the assumption is that 99.9 percent of harmful germs are killed by the sanitizers. Recent research suggests that this is not the case.

    How do hand sanitizers work?

Hand sanitizers work by stripping away the outer layer of oil on the skin. This usually prevents bacteria present in the body from coming to the surface of the hand. However, these bacteria that are normally present in the body are generally not the kinds of bacteria that will make us sick. In a review of the research, Barbara Almanza, an associate professor at Purdue University who teaches safe sanitation practices to workers, came to an interesting conclusion. She notes that the research shows that hand sanitizers do not significantly reduce the number of bacteria on the hand and in some cases may potentially increase the amount of bacteria on the hand. So the question arises, how can the manufacturers make the 99.9 percent claim?

How can the manufacturers make the 99.9 percent claim?

The manufacturers of the products test the products on inanimate surfaces hence they are able to derive the claims of 99.9 percent of bacteria killed. If the products were fully tested on hands, there would no doubt be different results. Since there is inherent complexity in the human hand, testing hands would definitely be more difficult. Using surfaces with controlled variables is an easier way to obtain some type of consistency in the results. But as we are all aware, everyday life is not as consistent.

    Current recommendations for hand sanitation

Interestingly enough, the Food and Drug Administration, in regards to regulations concerning proper procedures for food services, recommends that hand sanitizers not be used in place of soap and water but only as an adjunct.

Likewise, Almanza recommends that to properly sanitize the hands, soap and water should be used. A hand sanitizer can not and should not take the place of proper cleansing procedures with soap and water.';Are hand sanitizers really as good as washing with soap and water?
hand sanitizer kills the infectious dose, just like soap and water. infectious dose=amount of germs it take to make one sick. Are hand sanitizers really as good as washing with soap and water?
the best way to make sure your hands are clean is to wash and then sanitize.
    Best known substitute

    nothing beats

    nice hot waterhand wash

    hmmmm
As long as you thoroughly and vigorously rub your hands together for at least 30 seconds you should be fine.
No they aren't, but the next best thing to it. The sanitizers should have alot of alcohol in them to work best.

I recently read this in the newspaper.
I heard on dateline NBC that they will actually do more harm than good in the long run because the bacteria will develop an immunity to the santizer. It's actually better for our society to use regular soap and water. BUT if you need something quick and there isn't that available, use the hand sanitizer.

    i think so.
they are good for when you are 'on the go'..
I believe just good old soap and water is better. Just make sure you wash for at least a good minute. In a pinch I would use the sanitizers. The trouble with sanitizers are that they dry your skin and using them to often makes the germs stronger to fight them off
I have been hearing things that suggest that the sanitizers are used so much that the bacterias and viruses that they were meant to kill are now mutating and becoming immune to the sanitizers. Soap and water still seems to be the best bet!
I've heard experts say that hand sanitizers work as well as hand washing but they should not be used in place of it. Hand sanitizers are best used for times when soap and water are not available.

    try researching it....its possible, tho
He didn't INVENT hand soap, but he no doubt found a way to make it using peanut oil. Yes, he's the scientist that found 300 USES for the peanut. I'm sure he's in Wikipedia. Do a websearch.
george washington carver invented the radio, alternative electrical current, the automobile and many other inventions with his friend nicholas tesla. but he give everything for free for benefit of everyone and cia stole his invention book and made warfare use of carvers peaceful inventions. the authorities oppress many of his inventions like free energy from the radiation of the moon because capitalist cant make money from that. carver was good friend with nicholas tesla and they shared electricity problems and tesla trusted his inventions in carvers book to so we also lost those. it is rumored that carver invented forever potion and is still alive and preaching but this is unconfirmed and most people that have seen him say he is no longer sane but crazy.
