Triclosan is an anti-microbial agent used in cosmetic and dermatological preparations for several decades. It has not been used as a systemic antibacterial agent due to problems with drug administration. Research is being done and striking efficacy of triclosan in a mouse models of acute systemic bacterial infection have been reported. Triclosan not only significantly extends the survival time of the sick, infected mice, it also restores blood parameters and checks liver damage induced by the bacterial infection. The safety track record of triclosan in topical solutions is purpoted o be excellent, but the news is not all in and I still have my doubts about this one. If used systemically we may have significant protien / enzyme issues.
some say its overuse is part of the new probelm with drug resistant microbes..its used in plastic trays and other surface items also....
